I know, but the league can't survive adding so many mediocre programs

BYU is their best option by almost every metric, and if they choose NOT to add BYU, they will have to suffer the consequences.

If they choose 6 teams BEFORE BYU, the league is blatantly saying 'we don't care about the product you bring us', and it will fold. (unless they land some huge programs miraculously)
