Blue streak Walk-on
I grew up casually cheering for the U from out of state, all it took was 1 game
in SLC in '98 to cure that. I understand treating me and my father with hostility as I was attending BYU at the time, but the 7 and 9 year old kids who came up at halftime in tears and begged to sit with us was telling. They made the mistake of wearing blue and somehow there parents let them attend without a body guard. I was shocked that even they were being cursed and insulted and threatened and had things thrown at them. The insults that were made to the BYU band are somewhat understandable, but the personal level of the verbal assaults I witnessed to the chubby girl in the band were so far beyond the pale that it made the experience nearly unbearable. I'm not exactly sure what the LDS church had to do with it all, but it was featured prominently in the insults and slurs being hurled.

I'm sure others have had much better experiences @ Utah and I know many people who I admire who wear red. But I wouldn't attend unless you're comfortable with rated R movies (language and adult themes) and prepared to experience a ton of hostility. I can't imagine that things have gotten better over the last 2 decades and I would assume that these type of experiences are at least a possibility. Further, if you're of a mind to fight back when someone is literally spitting on you or screaming in your face or pushing you or after a beer can bounces off your head (all of which I experienced that day), it's probably better to stay away. I'm more of a shrinking violet type and have never had a physical fight, but I was ready to start hitting back.
