I don't know how old you were or when you played but where I grew up AAU was
highest level of basketball for kids in junior high. It was really the only way to play ball in high school. High school coaches would pick coaches for the AAU teams so the kids could learn that school's system before they got there. If you're referencing AAU for high school aged kids then, yeah, it's not good ball.
