Rise Against All-American
Just for fun head to head personnel comparison between BYU and Utah. O-line 1st
Reading another FO thread got me thinking about some specific matchups for our game with Utah this fall. These are merely projected depth charts. Feel free to chime in if you know something different or disagree.
BYU o-line vs. Utah d-line:
Utah defensive line has Bradlee Anae (4 tackles last year) and Chris Hart (redshirt freshman who hasn't played a down yet) at their defensive ends and Havili-katoa (4 tackles last year) and Mokofisi (45 tackles, 5 sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and a pass breakup) at defensive tackle. So, that's a ton of inexperience on that d-line with Mokofisi being the lone bright star. He's great, but he won't be playing DE as much as he did last year where he racked up most of his sacks.
BYU has Tejan Koroma (38 career starts, freshman all-american), Tuni Kanuch (has played in 37 games and started 16), Norman (started all 13 games last year, JC transfer before that), Shoaf (freshman all-american, started 9 games, played in 12), and Hoyt, though this one could change (played in 22 games, started 4). That's a ton of experience for us. The most we've had in a while at BYU. With the help Empey has given them, I have higher expectations for them this year.

So, in a head to head battle, on paper, BYU's o-line should dominate Utah's d-line. Koroma will be able to handle Mokofisi. Koroma has man-handled several NFL caliber DT's in the past. If Tejan has support, Mokofisi will be a non-factor. This is a big deal. If BYU o-line can hold their own and dominate the trench, Tanner will have sufficient time to make plays and the running game will open up too. We will move the ball on that d-line. I can't even begin to state the importance of the trenches. The last several years Utah has owned us in the trenches. Despite that domination, they have barely won the games. Flip the table on the trenches and you can start to smell a victory for BYU.

It's amazing that BYU is even or has an edge over Utah at every position. (OPINIONS, Apr 4, 2017 at 6:35pm)
