I'll just do this matchup, since the safety position is often the qb of the defense
BYU: Tanner Mangum. Had a stellar freshman year being thrust into action. Sat most of his sophomore year behind Taysom, but Ty Detmer has mentioned what a benefit this was for Tanner to be able to learn the offense. He knows the schemes now and has a much better grasp of how to read defenses having been tutored over the past year by Heisman Ty.
Utah: Chase Hansen (90 tackles, 7.5 TFL, 1 sack), Ballard (juco transfer)
Chase is a great athlete. He was awesome for Utah at safety last year. I'm going to call this one a wash based off of paper because we have yet to see what Tanner will do in a full game with Ty. I'm not counting that Wyoming bowl game due to the torrential rain. We know Tanner is talented. We know he has the tools to become great. We'll see what happens. Personally, I think he's going to have a great year and pass for over 3500 yards. But, based strictly off of paper, if someone put a gun to my head I'd have to lean slightly towards Utah on this matchup because of Chase Hansen.
