It's fine anytime unless the transfer is to a team that will be playing the opposite team in the very near future (say, within 1 month). If it's in spring ball, or they're coming off a mission, the team's playbook will change enough that it wouldn't be a problem. To have Bernard go to Utah and divulge BYU's tendencies would be unethical, and I have no doubt it's what will happen if he goes.
And despite all this, Kalani will be true to his core values and let him go. (Get it? Core values?)
