He was not as professionally lost as Brandon was after his firing--& therefore was never as emotionally down on the school, but he was definitely humiliated & angry in the way he was fired--& has ground his ax on BYU many times over the years because of it.
This isn't to say that his observations aren't often true--at least to a degree--& that several spoiled, self-righteous administrators at BYU aren't in need of a big dose of the humility pill. From what I can see & sense, he's quite right. But you can say the same of Church administration everywhere, just about (at least in my dealings).
Truth is, what BYU has accomplished through BYUtv & ESPN is beyond remarkable--& it WOULD be sustainable indefinitely, I think--if certain administrators wouldn't be so committed to such monolithic ideals of isolation & such rigid social ethics--that they deprive our athletics from getting on the same basic page w/ everyone else. You DON'T have to BE just like them to get on that page--but you do have to give a bit here & there.
In a nutshell, BYU has to open its arms just a bit in accepting (& even honoring) types of individuals that they refuse to at this point. And they need to trust certain individuals to run their own show more than they have allowed.
