You're missing the only relevant point if it goes to P4. There's no point in going to an 8 team playoff.
It's already built into an 8 team race. Division champions play each other, then off to the playoff.
No one else will be able to get in. P4 takes on unofficial semi-pro status and G5 ends up with its own playoff.
Sounds great in some ways but not so great in others. I think we're headed to something like this as soon as the money bubble bursts, which is already starting.
If this happens, the only consolation that BYU would have if it didn't make it into the P4 would that it would be a top tear G5 team that would probably win some championships...............yay..............

In the end its a money game... and there is no doubt that the playoff games generate the most money by far
