The running off of Rondo Fehlberg by then President Bateman will go down as the biggest gaffe in BYU athletic history.
The man had a clear vision of what BYU athletics could and should be, but more importantly, the tools necessary to bring it to pass. At a time when BYU needed a true leader and visionary, he was run off in favor of a yes man (Hale) and later a cheerleader (Holmoe).
I'm not saying BYU would be in a P5 conference enjoying more football success had he been allowed to do his job, but....
Yeah, I am saying that. Hale was weak and was a puppet. Tom is a great guy, but if you have access to the private conversations of many BYU coaches, the guy just isn't willing to go to bat with the higher ups.
