Random rant: I don't like speaking ill of Church leaders, but I will speak ill..
...of a specific action made by a BYU President who also happened to be a Church leader:

The running off of Rondo Fehlberg by then President Bateman will go down as the biggest gaffe in BYU athletic history.

The man had a clear vision of what BYU athletics could and should be, but more importantly, the tools necessary to bring it to pass. At a time when BYU needed a true leader and visionary, he was run off in favor of a yes man (Hale) and later a cheerleader (Holmoe).

I'm not saying BYU would be in a P5 conference enjoying more football success had he been allowed to do his job, but....

Yeah, I am saying that. Hale was weak and was a puppet. Tom is a great guy, but if you have access to the private conversations of many BYU coaches, the guy just isn't willing to go to bat with the higher ups.

Coulda. Woulda. Shoulda. Another chapter in the story of BYU athletics.
