I forced myself to watch the first 20 or so minutes of The Kalani Sitake Show
last night. With a few days to gather himself, Sitake was still going after the offense. He went on about how we should have run the ball, and sounded a lot like someone posting on CB. There was no discussion about U Mass stacking the box, forcing Critchlow to beat them with the pass - nothing like that. It was just lamentation of why the offense threw the ball so much, why Critchlow took seven sacks, threw four picks, and just didn't run the ball. Not much more analysis beyond that. He said the defense did enough to win the game. The offense lost the game.

I suppose some here would say that is Sitake just being honest. However, that is flat out bush league. It is divisive. He protected his guys on the defensive side of the ball. If U Mass can get four turnovers, how about BYU's defense getting a few of those back? If BYU's offense can only score 10, then perhaps it's up to the defense to hold U Mass to less than 10. It's team game. Period.

I want to like Sitake. I want to believe in Sitake. I want to be on the "Sitake will fix this when his guys are all in place" bandwagon - but he is just not giving me the confidence that he is able to do much better next season.

I would like to see Sitake do some X's and O's on his show, like they break things down on AFR, just to get a sense that he knows what's really going on. But, when Sitake is still blaming the offense for passing too much three days after the loss, without specifics, without explaining what U Mass was doing on defense to trigger Ty's decision to throw the ball, it feels dishonest to me - like Sitake is simply trying to shift blame. It makes me wonder how well he gets along with Ty, as Sitake seems to be stabbing in him the back, throwing him under the bus, and hoping circumstances will open the way for him to get one of his home boys to run the offense.

How much better would our offense be under a well seasoned OC this year with all the injuries we have had? (S&C is another big issue, but Sitake defended that guy to the wall.)

I have not seen a coach throw selected members of his own staff and players under the bus publicly like Sitake. Sadly, I don't think he realizes what he's doing. It seems like a gut reaction by someone who just doesn't have a clue.
