I was concerned starting from the opening press conference about Kalani when he was introduced as head coach.
Reporters would ask him questions which he mostly did not answer and he mainly just pivoted to give his speech points he wanted to give.

In other words, it seemed like he struggled at listening and then responding to specific questions. Like he was slightly slow of thought.

I had little preconception or knowledge about Kalani at that time, so I was mostly giving him a clean slate as I watched.

Now I know communicating with the press is not the biggest deal and sometimes reporters are looking for controversial remarks, but the opening press conference caused me to think that Kalani is not an expert communicator. The reporters were mostly asking softball questions, and he still struggled to answer their questions. He responded by talking about something else different than what they asked him about. I also understand that he probably had some nerves about being introduced for this important position.

Of many important qualities for being a head coach, it seems like being an expert communicator should be one.

Boy i got attacked when I put forth my concerns on the deseret news comments. Almost everyone jumped in to defend him to say what an awesome communicator he is.
