When Pope was at UVU, the only chance they had to compete was to load up on transfers. Basically, a bunch of kids with no LDS or State of Utah ties. This worked OK at a WAC program like UVU.

Now Pope is trying this at BYU, and pushing out BYU's traditional recruiting base of LDS kids from Utah and Idaho.

This has been a disaster. I think it's premised on the incorrect belief that these white LDS kids are not athletic enough to compete. Did he not watch how BYU with a "Church Ball" looking team of local kids used to destroy teams like UNLV and SDSU every year? Now we have a more athletic team that sucks and cannot shoot the ball.
