One of my employees was arrested on Friday.
He was using a company vehicle.
The police report lists 3 charges
Possession of a controlled substance
Possession of a device for the use of controlled substances
Possession of metal knuckles
He’s plead not guilty
First instinct is to fire the employee.
Too much liability involved.
Second thought is that I suspect the charges are going to be dropped. I mean… my business is in California. And it’s seems ridiculous but I believe I’d be stuck with unemployment and potentially this guy would sue me. Even though I think I’d win I don’t want to deal with the loss of time and money.
The guy does really good work but it’s super difficult to get him to comply with his work schedule as it’s made for him.
The rest of his work is very very spot on and I don’t see replacing him while getting the same quality of work.
Any thoughts???
