Well, it's not silly. But, not sure why we have to polarize to absolutes so
often in our society, or on CB. We often tend to stand our ground in our own corner of opinion, and declare the other corner as silly, or nonsense, when most often, both corners are actually right to some degree, and both have a point. Pope was neither 100% Kentucky loyal and only using BYU as a stepping stone, nor was he 100% loyal to BYU, as evidenced by the departure. Lavell, of course, and some others from the past, likely would not have done what Pope did, but this is a different era, with different priorities, even if those priorities are not all necessarily favorable for the game overall, or for the everyone involved.

Is it likely that Pope always had his eye on UK, as a place he'd love to aspire to in the future? Sure, and when it came up, it wasn't surprising at all that he made the move. But, I also think it was likely that he gave BYU and his players his all (while having UK on his mind) when here as a coach, and would have been completely loyal to building BYU for years, had the UK job (or another one that fulfilled his career goals more) become available. I think it's the same for all people who are trying to maximize their impact within their sphere, and at the same time fulfill their own aspirations / dreams. They can have feet in more than one camp, yet not necessarily betray or dismiss either one.
