I can't say whether BYU was a stepping stone or not. I have no idea.
That's a question you'd have to ask Pope.
I will continue to assert that it is silly to believe that the ONLY reason Pope worked hard at BYU was because he wanted to eventually get to Kentucky.
Did he want to eventually get to Kentucky? Probably. I can accept that.
If Kentucky told him that he would never ever be an option for them and he would never get a job there, do you think he would've stopped working hard? I don't.
I think he's probably more driven by winning and being successful and works hard for those reasons more than simply to get a job at Kentucky.
