People seem to assume that if someone doesn’t want to be at BYU, they must
not like BYU. And if someone doesn’t like BYU, it can’t be because of BYU, so there must be some negative, undesirable character flaws about that person. That is assumed, unless the person showers BYU with praise, ensuring everyone that they don’t hate BYU.
So this new “side” to Pope is just people making assumptions of what it means for someone to (gasp) want to be somewhere besides BYU.
