icecougar Intervention Needed
And refusing to do what the coach asks qualifies as being a jerk…
..and is bad for the team.

Look at it like an orchestra, the coach is the conductor, What makes the music beautiful is all members pulling together in unison under the direction of the conductor. If a violin player is upset that they don’t get to play 2nd chair, is demoted and gets moved further down the line, their job is to work harder, refine their talents and try to earn their way back. If that player doesn’t follow the conductors directions, does their own thing etc, it affects the players around them negatively and has a negative impact on the orchestra.

Competition for playing time is an integral part in making any team better. That’s job #1 for a backup, push the starter for PT. Forces the starter to work hard to keep their PT. Sulking and doing the opposite isn’t helping the player get better and isn’t helping their teammates get better. It’s the player feeling entitled and putting themselves ahead of the team. We’ve seen examples of that in the recent past where it leads to players becoming cancers on the team and it has a negative impact on the team (*cough* Nick Emery!).
