Since most batters in lower levels of baseball are RH, this is a disadvantage. In all of the history of MLB, there have been maybe two dozen left handed throwing catchers.

Lefties can play plenty, including catcher…but if you have an arm they make you a pitcher. Hence no lefty catchers.
