6 weeks is, usually, plenty of time to recover physically from childbirth and IMO enough time to bond with the child. If you’re going to be a working mom, then you’ll eventually have to face the reality of actually being a working mom.
Stretching out maternity leave to 4-6 months or more turns it more into an unnecessary leave of absence. I know most people would disagree but (in most cases) if a woman needs more than 3 months of maternity leave, then she should just quit her job and reapply when she’s ready to come back to the labor force.
Maternity leave, in principle, is a good thing, but it’s turning into an entitlement like other social programs where no amount will ever be good enough.
