Very few make a couple hundred grand. For all the whining docs including myself do, the actual income numbers are a whole lot higher than people think.
There’s more job security as compared to any other career path (at least traditionally), so that gives people maybe too much confidence that everything will be fine.
I think medicine segregates people from everyday life during training more than any other specialty.. so they’re not doing business deals, interacting with others professionally, negotiating, etc. So I don’t think they’re as well versed in a lot of financial matters.
I think the old school docs who use to be treated like kings fit the reputation of making bad investments based on ego. The new submissive docs are more aware of people out to screw them and seem more conservative.
