Bring this up again on a day with higher traffic

I'd like to see what the response is.

The idea of going independent for BYU has been shot down by many before you could say bye bye MWC, but has anyone really gone into good detail about what realistically could be expected if they were to try without just shooting it down blindly?

ie...

What would the revenue be like? I'm looking for approximate numbers by someone informed not some reply like... well not enough yuk yuk... If BYU was able to keep all their revenue to themselves by virtue of being independent would it be more than they get now?

Would they be able to strike up deals with ESPN et al (being independent you can contract with anyone... ESPN, Fox, CBS, NBC and any affiliates of the aforementioned) for home games? Would they be able to have a "blue and white" network where they could televise games as a last resort?

Would the BCS allow BYU to have a ND type of clause for a bid to a BCS game (this would maintain and even increase interest of recruits imo) since they're no longer tied to a conference and can stand on their own historical merits for inclusion?

What games/teams could they get to sign on to annual matchups? I could see Utah and Utah State for sure to start.

To me independence is not such a bad idea if all the data for the above questions pans out to BYU making more than they do now, and getting more prestige and respect as a result of possible matchups that could be had in scheduling.

BYU is basically a BCS athletic department and the MWC could actually be dragging them down in the long run as opposed to helping them get to where they want to be.

I would like to see some real thinking for this one from people not just passing it off as being stupid because no one has done it successfully or worse yet trying to compare it to what Ut. State did. Stating the obvious, but BYU is NOT like Utah State so don't even try to make that comparison.
