BYU's athletic department is financially healthier. We'll probably never know how much BYU actually brings in each year from ESPN, BYUTV, ticket and apparel sales, etc. However, BYU already has excellent facilities in place that utah still has to build. BYU has also set up multi-million dollar endowments to fund scholarships and facility maintenance/upkeep that the athletic dept doesn't have to fund each year.
