but the march madness shares aren't paid out in whole the next year. They are distributed over several years using a formula that includes number of teams in the tourney and depth in the tourney. IIRC the full distribution of a year's share doesn't come until 5 or so years later. Utah is still earning money for the MWC despite being in the basketball crapper and being a few years removed from the tourney.
