First of all it wasn't that much work
most of it was tracked over the entire year last year to see the difference in BYU's exposure with our move to indy over what it was before.

I'm just pointing out that BYU had a few games last year with higher ratings. A higher rating certainly means more viewers in the 18-49 demographic as that is all "ratings" usually measure; but doesn't really determine how many total viewers each game had (meaning viewers of any/all ages). It would be assumed though that a .7 increase in the 18-49 category over a .9 (almost double) would likely be a significant number of additional viewers as well.

Through tracking the numbers last year it was amazing to see that even the supposed "game of the century" between LSU & Alabama in week 10 only hit the range of the very bottom feeding NFL games (an 11.9). Nothing else the entire regular season in college football even came close to LSU/Alabama.

Of the 160 different games that were on a network capable of receiving enough ratings to be on the publicly accessible Nielsen ratings list BYU was playing in 8 of those. When you consider that there are about 40-50 college football games a week that are considered to be shown "nationally" (yes the mtn used to receive that moniker) but only 160 of them were on a network capable of enough viewership to be in Nielsen's free publicly accessible ratings it is a good thing for BYU in comparison to what a lot of teams get.

BYU's ratings may not seem stellar when trying to compare the NFL or "the game of the century" ratings to BYU, or even SEC/B1G/B12 matchups. But of those 160 games they averaged a 2.2 rating. BYU games averaged a 1.05 rating. Again - someone may not be impressed. But when you consider only about 480 of the approximately 720 FBS games get selected to be shown "nationally" and only 160 of them can achieve enough of a rating to be listed by Nielsen publicly; and BYU had 8 of those - these are significant numbers.

Significant enough that the world wide leader signed a contract with BYU. And they are happy enough with the ratings that they still sent a rep to our media days and I also saw Dave Brown from ESPN on the field before the WSU vs BYU game I'd say that ESPN is not upset about what ratings BYU is getting.
