Look at their resume prior to the playoff. They just weren't a top 4 team by any reasonable standard. So no matter what they do in a bowl game, they weren't one of the 4 teams contending for the national title. After winning the bowl game, they look a little better and can ask if the system can be changed so a team like them in the future could be included in a playoff. But they can't claim a national title because they didn't win one.
