You don’t hand check someone shooting from 28 feet. And if defenses adapted and pushed out onto Curry at 30 feet, he’d get a screen and absolutely murder any big man from the 90’s who had to defend him in the pick n roll.
And backcourts were often smaller in the 90’s. You could play curry off ball and just run him around off screens like he does now, except nba defenses didn’t know how to handle defending the 3 point line like they do now.
It was harder to get to the rim in the 90’s because spacing sucked. Curry would single handily create a huge spacing advantage for his team back then.
Stockton to Malone was a fantastic pick n roll duo, but a Curry Malone pick n roll duo would have been more dangerous. Defenses would have had to adjust to curry pulling from 25+ feet regularly, which would have opened up more space for Malone on the roll.
