I look at it the other way, defenders would be handchecking him and begging him
to drive to the hole where they'd either crush him ala Detroit Bad Boys or like Karl Malone did to Isiah Thomas. I'm a big Steph Curry fan, but the rules today favor smaller guys more than they did in the 80's or 90s and I think Steph would be beat up a lot if playing in a different era. (sort of similar to the arguments being made today in the NFL about smaller qbs being able to play more because the game isnt as physical, which is the exact argument I heard about Kyler Murray this morning)
Is he one of the greatest PGs ever? Certainly. But the lack of physicality today vs then would be something that matters.....Magic was so much bigger and more physical. THe game is just different these days.
