It was the primary role, just seems silly to rate them based on a specific skill
If you want to say, Stockton played the distributor/floor general role better than anyone, I have no problem with that. But to me, saying someone is a better point guard means he was the overall better player. Curry is a better basketball player than Stockton. They both happened to play the point guard position.
As for curry fitting more of a sg role, I’d disagree there too. He’s clearly a primary ball handler/initiator. GS has the ability to play him off the ball due to very skilled wings and big men(Iguodala, draymond, Durant) and they’ve taken the ball out of his hands more and more, but curry has been a 6-7 assist guy.
Now if you want to compare him to other primary initiators from the sg position(Wade, Iverson, Kobe, Roy) that’s fine, he has a lot in common with them, moreso than with a guy like Stockton.
