Because for decades that was the standard definition of a point guard.
Not saying it can't or shouldn't change, but we have defined the point as someone who is a distributor and game manager first for decades. Again, I am fine with the change, but if you are going to compare Curry to past players he fits into more of a shooting guard category than a point.

Who has helped there team more is very subjective. How do you quantify assists versus pure scoring. Is it better to score the ball or find your teammates for open looks to get them involved? How do you quantify defense? Steph, is the greatest scoring point ever, clearly. However, when you look at the complete game of all the past points you come away with a much muddier picture. There are many players I would take as a better overall player than Steph because of assists, game management, and defense. I think at times those things are easy to overlook.

I think there is an argument here with Steph, I just think he is lower on the list than some.
