question - but that clearly means a lot to many people.
I guess given the demographics of this board, I was expecting more comments referring to the Gospel. If I wasn't religious, I would totally agree with the idea that "Hey, if somebody knowingly risks his/her life and ends up dying, who am I to worry about that?"
But given our knowledge of God's plan for us - His children here on Earth - it just seems not that simple. Especially when I see good LDS people dying while doing dangerous activities. Again, it's their right to choose - nobody is disputing their free agency - but I find myself thinking, "Gee, that guy could have been a bishop, or a mission president." Maybe God has big plans for us that don't involve dying from risky behaviors.
I say this as somebody who has climbed some pretty big mountains, and has rafted through some pretty big rapids. I totally understand the fun and thrill of having an adventure - it is very real, and it feels amazing - no doubt about that.
