It ultimately comes down to points scored, just like on defense it comes down to points allowed. The other stuff just happens between the goal lines.
I get that metrics are all the rage but a qb can have a high efficiency rating and not lead his team to a lot of points, ditto for the offense as a whole.
I don’t know how many PPG Vanderbilt put up last year but it wasn’t enough to have a winning record so unless they were scoring a bunch and the defense was abysmal and allowing a bunch more then all that efficiency didn’t matter as much as people are trying to make it out to have made.
I haven’t looked it up bit how many PPG did Vandy score and how many did they allow?
