and I don’t know if that is correct or not so I’ll tale your word for it but yes certainly the QB is a factor in drops. Ultimately receivers need to catch any catchable ball thrown to them but like the example I gave above when Huntley threw 100mph fastball at a receiver 8 yards away from him making it almost impossible to catch even when it is right in their hands the QB has some blame on some drops.
Lots of receivers make comments on how “catchable” the balls any given qb throws actually are and touch has a lot to do with that. Some guys just instinctively throw balls at the correct velocity on the correct trajectory to make them easy to catch.
I don’t think that is something that can be learned, I’ve seen QBs work on that for years and only minimally improve at it, it’s just one of those things they can either do regularly or they can’t.
In fact I heard Steve Young talk about it once, how he didn’t think that’s a learned trait, it’s purely instinctive and just can’t be learned.
