playoff. Right now Mid tier to low tier P5’s can claim major superiority over top tier non P5’s. In a 12 team playoff scenario they won’t really be able to claim that. If Cincinnati or Boise State are going to the playoff every other year and you’re Arizona, your conference affiliation is basically useless, except for money.

But I am saying the most likely opportunity for BYU will be with the AAC and they should take it. I’ve been a supporter of independence, but a 12 team playoff with 6 conference champions changes that. I’m also not sure the AAC would want BYU in that scenario.

I also wonder if part of this is trying to force ND’s hand into joining a conference. Depends on how important they view a potential bye game.
