I think in this case Occam's Razor should be applied.
If the dollar amounts from big-time P5 schools for NIL are remotely near what is being reported...I'd go to Texas too and still have a BYU flag hanging up in my dorm room.
Kalani is smart and is a solid recruiter. He has even stated he'd go after guys that BYU hasn't gone after in the past (i.e. folks Bronco didn't go after). So unless you think he is lying, the simplest and likely most accurate scenario is that the kid wasn't interested in coming to BYU. He can say whatever he wants publicly and there are certainly reasons for that (as there was for Gustin).
But I've got it on good authority he was offered, hands down. But told the staff he wasn't interested.
