That's been a problem for a while now. Not sure if it's the complacency knowing you are the "COJCOLDS" sponsored church and most young men want to just naturally come to BYU - Provo, but Bronco had the same problem at times as well. I can tell you that one guy on last years team and one starter this year originally were not going to BYU or went to another school because Bronco's staff did very little to recruit the "local" kids. These two have been big contributors to BYU teams now for several years. With KS taking over and a lucky break having a certain coach come in we landed both of them despite not giving them attention.

I knew some of these kids, and watched them play since my little league days. I asked one point-blank what was up with BYU and their recruiting pitch and he was a Senior at that point. He was like, "what pitch?" and chuckled. He was still respectful but he wasn't super impressed. One thing Utah does clearly better is how well they connect with the local kids. He'd met Kyle several times by that point, and knew all the coaches well he'd work with at Utah if he'd pulled the trigger. If it wasn't for blind luck BYU would have lost him.

Now hearing KS and staff are doing some of the same games with guys has me concerned. Is this just plain a lack of "funds$" or is it really an attitude issue at BYU when it comes to local or LDS athletes?
