They all have their strengths and weaknesses, like all of us. But it is here and now, so these comparisons have little utility. The fact is, this is a critical time for the BYU football program. Kalani needs to get his staff right. He needs to hire a proven DC. I hope he succeeds. He is a good man and excellent figure head. But, if we are to be objective, he has not earned a lot of trust that he can or will set the defense right. The defense has been poorly coached for years, but he excused it for whatever reason. At this point, it is a prove me situation. Let’s see who he hires, and if it is more of the same with a new name, or a real change in direction. I would like nothing more than to see Kalani succeed and coach at BYU for years to come so hoping but skeptical. OTOH, that will immediately change if he goes out and hires a proven DC.
