When we moved to more RPO, we stopped recruiting pro set athletes. At one point, we intentionally slimmed down the offensive line so they would be more explosive off the line. That isn’t good for pass blocking.
NFL type quarterbacks don’t want to come to a school with Taysom Hill as the starter. Nor do receivers.
Riley Nelson and Taysom Hill led to an offensive identity crisis at BYU. We lost our soul.
Taysom was probably the most exciting player ever at BYU. But we never had an exciting season with him at the helm.
Go back and remember how excited you were watching Christian Stewart against Cal. Cal wasn’t a very good team but BYU was Slinging the ball all over the field. We scored late in a pass and won the game.
Over the past 8 years or so, we have really struggled to establish any sort of passing threat.
My untrained eye says BYU went away from its identity and has never recovered.
