No. I think you are just failing to comprehend!
I’m not saying they were flawless. But they handled that play in an acceptable manner considering everything.

Explain what they should have done differently. And don’t say they should have blown the whistle. Because unless a single referee sees the release AND the ball hitting the ground (must clearly see both), then they should not have blown the whistle.

But, if you have one who saw the release but not the ball hitting the ground, and another who saw the ball hit the ground but not the release, neither should have blown the whistle but both can get together after the play and get the call correctly.
