I think a good compromise would be to use the 12 hour clock, but replace 12 with
0. That way 0:00pm would be noon and 0:00am would be midnight.
Then both am and pm would run from 0:00 until 11:59 rather then from 12:00 back to 1:00 then back up to 11:59.

By definition you're trying to use, you'd be saying that at precisely noon (12:00:00) it's AM, but at 12:00:01 it's PM

Are you assuming she doesn't understand what 12pm is? It is the same no matter what country you live in. 12 pm is 12 pm
