midnight (rendering your entire OP moot), you have traveled in Europe enough to know that 12:00 is noon because 13:00 is 1pm, 14:00 is 2pm, etc.

Literally no one in the world would call 12pm midnight.

By definition you're trying to use, you'd be saying that at precisely noon (12:00:00) it's AM, but at 12:00:01 it's PM

Most countries use the 24 hour clock. Avoids all confusion. 0000 is not 1200
