It is better to dig a hole away from the house and create a vacuum effect that sucks all the water from around the area.
Another thing you might need is potentially a French drain. But I’m not sure. I have one on my GA house and it is on a hill, but the rain is so intense it doesn’t work well at times. We are having to dig up the flower beds and put in a different drainage system for the roof where the downspouts run ito sewer pipe and then off into the drainage area.
We did a small one last year and it has drained half the water. We now know that a bigger one will drain all the water from around the house
Our final step will be to duels a dry creek bed in the back of the yard and realize the property so that it drains into the creek and away from the grass
Our next door neighbor has a giant storm drain in his front yard. But earlier this week there was so much rain his entire front yard all of his side yard and 1/4 of his back yard was under water. Even our yard which has a 6’ drop from side to side was backing up from his flood
