Bronco's biggest shortcoming
I think that Bronco is a great recruiter. He has expanded the recruiting pool and has turned what makes recruiting at byu difficult into a positive recruiting tool. Bronco and his new coaches are recruiting hard and have the right pitch.

Also, to me, it is clear that Bronco is a highly competent football coach. What Bronco turns his attention to seems to "turn to gold". Whether defense or special teams, or whatever he focuses on it is clear he knows football, is a great leader, and gets his kids to buy in and follow him.

Where I think Bronco has comes up short is hiring effective assistant coaches. As mentioned when Bronco addresses a certain area of the team it improves. Problem is he can't do everything. So he needs assistant coaches that can take a group (offense) and excel. He hasn't had that and, in my opinion, that is what has been missing at BYU. I think that is what is needed to take us to another level under Bronco and that is where Bronco has failed.

I am not advocating firing Anae or Bronco. The verdict is still out on Anae 2.0 and should get at least one more year. I hope that Bronco made the right pick and we are not seeing the effects of mediocre assistant coaches yet again. Bronco is good but he needs some good help. Help that is so good they are poached by other schools, not fired. This is where, to this point, Bronco has failed.

Keep Bronco. Get better assistants is the path to more wins.
