I can only speak on what I would do if I were in his situation, and I perceived
that BYU didn't see my potential on a personal level. They're only interested in the end result if I went on a mission, etc. I wouldn't be too inclined as an individual to suddenly forget that they didn't believe in me.

This is speculation based on the kid's claim to want to serve a mission, then going on a mission, then being given an offer by BYU... how is that NOT hypothetical? The act of putting yourself in someone else's shoes and speculating on what you would do is, in its nature, hypothetical, is it not?
