If you're not doing anything super heavy, get the 4gb S3
I've had mine for a month and it doesn't get bogged down basic computing. I hook it up to an external monitor when I'm at home, and have a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.
You can split your budget in half, and get that now and it's newer version in 2 years.
With the sp3 I felt like I wouldn't use it much like a tablet because it was too bulky. The surface 3 is iPad sized
