You've proven to me a child's loss is as powerful as the loss of an apostle...
Everyday I look at my children praying that they believe and know they are not just a number, but an individual that can make a difference in the world. And here I sit, thousands of miles from my family, alone on another work trip, eating breakfast in public, letting the tears fall and not caring who sees. The story of a child lost has grabbed my heart, and all I want to do is hold my own just a little bit longer than I did when I left.
I hope you never feel selfish or dumb for sharing. Acting on instinct is the pure gift from heaven that our children understand, yet we tend to loose with time. Being as a child in this sense, is something we've all been asked to do. Feeling your hurt has given me perspective again, and reminded me how pointless my pursuit of wealth and comfort is if I don't embrace every second of love my children are desperate to share with me.
Powerful, and life changing lessons like that, are the things an apostle like L. Tom Perry spent ten times as many years trying to accomplish. And to think today, a 9 year old stands with a man I loved as much as him, as a teacher, is the a true testament of the power in a child.
I pray you find peace, which I know seems impossible. But thank you for sharing, and letting a child and your unquestionable love for him help me focus on the deeper meaning of life.
