My parents have started doing some of those things. Not significant amounts of

money, but every year or two they'll write all of us a nice check. They've also started to send a couple hundred dollars at the beginning of each school year to help with "back to school" for our 4 kids.

We need none of it, but I think you are right. They keep saying they wished they had a little extra when they had multiple young ones in the house at the same time.
