This is what my dad told us in a family meeting after he retired.

Basically, "don't plan on an inheritance, I hope my last check bounces."

The idea was that he planned on spending it all on missions. We'll see how well he did. He's always been big on self-reliance and so it may have just been a statement to discourage any one of us from planning or banking on something.
