If anything, that is the argument someone who only considers H2H would say. Since Penn State beat Ohio State, they should immediately be in. I guess I shouldn't have mentioned resumes, because resumes are often relying on H2H matchups. I just mean looking at the overall picture (including H2H), I think a case could easily be made that Bama was the best team in the country this year.

I'm personally OK with thinking a team was the best in the country, and thinking a different team won (and earned) the championship. And I'm OK with the goal of the playoff to be to determine the winner of the playoff, and not necessarily determine the best team. So what the playoff committee says doesn't mean much to me. They've made inconsistent arguments all the time about what they are aiming for - determining the best team or picking the team with the best record.
