On one hand you don't want to kill confidence or make a kid second guess himself but the flip side is you don't want to see kids launching with selfish and reckless abandon either. In Nate's case I didn't understand why coaches would discourage him from taking the 15 footer when he usually only took it when he was wide open and the 4th or 5th option that posession.
I think in Nate's case coaches did him a disservice because he became 6'11" non-shooting perimeter passer in many cases on the offense and was a minimal contributor which often put our offense going 4 on 5. When he was on the floor with Josh Sharp it put us in an even bigger hole because you had 2 bigs now who were scared to shoot and opposing defenses didn't have to worry about covering thus allowing them to focus more on Tyler Haws and others.
