Imagine you went your whole life not feeling anything with your left arm, then
had an operation and suddenly felt a constant onslaught of what seemed like endless pinpricks, with occasional slaps and burning sensations in that arm? Sure, if you put up with it for a few months or years, you might get used to it and start learning to feel things correctly. But I bet for those first two or three weeks, you'd want nothing more than just to turn the feeling off, even if it meant cutting off the arm.
